About Us
Valentine's Story
Valentine Alcock was a talented clarinettist and saxophonist from a single-parent, mixed-race background. Tragically, Valentine drowned in 1974 at the age of 19, shortly before he was due to take up a place at Cambridge University.
The Scholarship
The Scholarship began as a fund set up in Valentine’s memory by close relatives to enable young musicians from single parent families to take part in a summer school.
This Scholarship scheme was expanded and reformulated in 2008 as a charity registered with the Charities Commission, but it remains a small, family-run and largely family-funded beneficial organisation.
The Trustees
The current trustees are all relatives of Valentine:
1. Mr. Bob O'Hagan - Hon. Secretary
2. Mr. Jim Douglas
3. Mr. Richard O'Hagan
4. Ms. Kate O'Hagan
